McCarthy Road, 9/5/2
The McCarthy Road is a 60 mile dirt road that goes from Chitina to the Kennicott River. From there you cross a foot bridge (a bridge just for people and bikes, haha) and then walk about a mile into the town of McCarthy. We left on this trip early Saturday morning and got to the end of the road in the late afternoon. It was a long couple hours on the dirt road, but so pretty too! I loved all the fall colors and the sunshine!
We stayed in a little private cabin a few miles before the end of the road. (WRST is interesting in that there are several areas that are privately owned, with cabins and such, and there's a town right in the park too, haha.) Currant Ridge (where we stayed) was super nice and clean, and there was a big grassy lawn with a trampoline for the tenants to play on. I think the tramp might have been the girls' favorite part, lol. It felt good to stretch and play after such a long car ride. Unfortunately we somehow left the girls' clothes bag at home, so they didn't have any pajamas and had to wear the same thing for three days, oops! Sorry girls! Other than that this whole trip was so fun!
