Butte with Ruby, 7/9/24

Ruby and I did a little mommy/daughter date and hiked the Butte as a bedtime hike. You'd never guess from these photos, but the time stamp on all of them is around 9 pm! Even after living here for so many years, that midnight sun never gets old! So fun to enjoy this late night sunshine with sweet Ruby! ☀️

Chrissy came to visit us at the end of June/early July, and we did so many fun things! We had amazing weather pretty much the whole time she was here, and we packed in so much! It was the best, and we truly love having visitors stay with us whenever we can get them! Get ready for a ton of blog posts from our time with Aunt Chris Chris!

First up, she arrived late Tuesday night, and the next day we hiked the Butte and went to the Reindeer Farm (next post). Scott worked this day, but we still had so much fun, just Chrissy, me, and the girls! Enjoy these fun pics!

Early May we always start to get a little bit of Spring Fever and we just can't wait for summer and warmer weather and GREEN to arrive! 💚 On Star Wars day (May the Fourth Be With You, lol) we decided to hike the Butte. It was one of the windiest times we've ever done it, but we still had fun, all in our Star Wars shirts, lol. Enjoy these cute pics! 💫

We were able to get out and hike the Butte again a few weeks later. This is one of my favorite hikes. Short and sweet, but absolutely beautiful views! Enjoy!

We hiked the Butte with Heather while she was still here for work, and it was so fun! Definitely not ideal conditions (a little snowy and muddy), but we still had a great time. It's always good to get outside and enjoy the fresh air! Afterwards we had Heather over to our house for dinner and games. It was so fun! Thanks for visiting us Heather!!

When Scott first moved to AK we had purchased a home, but we wouldn't close on it for a month or so. Luckily, Scott had some amazing friends and co-workers that stepped in and helped out. He stayed with his good friend, Katie, while working in Anchorage, and then later he rented a room from his friend, Kate. He was also able to meet up with some other friends for dinners and hikes. We missed each other so much, but I was glad that Scott was able to be with friends and enjoy the beautiful fall in AK. 🍁🍂

9/22/23 Scott's co-worker, Jeff, refs high school football games and Scott was able to help with the chains at this game!

After going to the Reindeer Farm Scott, the girls, Steph, and Alex all went on over to the stair side and hiked the butte! Unfortunately Noelle got a little car sick on the way over and threw up after getting out of the car. (I felt so bad I was at work!) Poor Scott didn't know what to do, but luckily after throwing up she said she felt fine, and wanted to keep hiking! Scott said she pretty much ran up the butte! Go Noelle! It was a beautiful day and I was glad Scott got these cute pics of the girls! We love fall in Alaska! 🍁🏔

With the girls starting school mid-August we tried to get as much fun into the end of summer as we could! Scott had his normal Wednesday off and we decided to hike the Butte. Ruby didn't feel super great, but we decided to hike it anyway. Unfortunately I took her to the doctor the next day and found out she had strep throat, poor little thing. She was a trooper for doing this whole hike though! A couple weeks later I ended up getting strep throat too. 👎It was a little bit of a rough start with sickness in August, but since then we've been pretty good! Hopefully we'll continue to stay healthy!

About a week and a half after we hiked the butte the first time this year we decided to hike it again, and the trail was so much better! There were still just a few muddy spots, but no snow and no ice. Yay! This time we hiked with our good friends, the Laytons. The kids always have so much fun together, and it was a beautiful, clear day. (Sometimes it can be super windy at the top, but not this day!) Enjoy these cute pics!

We decided to make our first hike up the Butte back in April. The snow was pretty much melted at our house, but on the trail it was pretty rough. We ran into lots of ice, slush, and mud. We hiked with our good friends, the Woods, so it was fun to be with them and enjoy the sunshine, but overall we probably should have waited a few weeks for the trail to dry out a bit more, haha. Enjoy these pics!

We are having the warmest summer we can remember here in AK! I think we're going on three or four weeks straight of being able to wear shorts and short sleeves daily! Usually we only have a week or so of really warm (70 plus) temperatures, so this is a little unusual, but we aren't complaining too much. We're having tons of fun and enjoying the outdoors as much as we can!

A few weeks ago we hiked the Butte! The girls all did so good! Noelle did the whole way up and pretty much the whole way down all by herself! All the girls pretended to be baby mountain goats as we were hiking so it was pretty cute to hear them "braying" along the way. The Butte is one of our favorite hikes to do here! It's not too long and the views at the top are just amazing! Enjoy these beautiful pics!

On thing Chrissy really wanted to do while she was here was go to the Reindeer Farm. (It's probably our favorite thing too!) We decided to make it a full day in Palmer and hiked the Butte first, and then we walked to the Reindeer Farm. We had absolutely gorgeous weather and actually got pretty hot hiking the Butte. Noelle did the whole way up by herself (such a good little hiker!) and then was carried most the way down, haha. We also somehow forgot the baby carrier, oops! So Robyn was also carried the whole way, lol. But it all worked out and we had fun! Enjoy these pics from the Butte, and then I'll do the Reindeer Farm pics in a separate post. :)

We had perfect weather for our first time up the butte this year. It was actually a little hot, but nothing to complain about, haha. Ruby did the whole thing up and down by herself. (We did the dry, dusty side.) Scott had Noelle in the hiking backpack, and I had baby #3 in the front pack, lol. Only about 8 more weeks until we meet our sweet new babe.

We had one week from the time Mike and Kay left until we left to Cali for a week. Scott had Wednesday off so we continued with our usual weekly #hadleyakadventures. We hiked the Butte and then we went to the Reindeer Farm. So much fun! The Butte is one of our favorite hikes! Enjoy these beautiful pics!

After I got off work on Saturday we decided to hike the butte-y (as Ruby calls it) again. We've been having the best weather lately and we've loved getting outdoors! I didn't take a ton of pics because it was super windy on top and then on our way back down we started to get rained on. We didn't get too wet though, and it was cute to hear Ruby yell, "We have to run from the drops!"

We hiked up the stair side this time, and again Ruby did great! It was more muddy on this side, but so pretty! (All of our shoes were a mess, but no biggie!) Ruby was a little slow going back down, as she wanted to jump off every stair, but that's ok! We're so grateful for our good health that allows us to be so active and get outside and enjoy this beautiful state that we live in!

After General Conference on Sunday we decided to take advantage of the beautiful day and hike the Butte! It was a perfect day! Everything is still kind of brown, but there was hardly any wind and the sun was shining! Ruby even did the whole hike by herself! Up and down! She's getting so big! I think we're in for a fun summer!

Our Memorial Day weekend fun continued and on Monday we hiked the Butte in the morning. It was a beautiful day! Ruby hiked up and down on her own with Scott only carrying her a few times. (Our first time not taking the backpack carrier.) She's getting so big! I carried Noelle in the ring sling where she stayed nice and snug. We finished the day off with a BBQ with our friends. We missed being in Utah with our families and going to the Herriman cemetery with the Hadley side, but we're making the most of our time here in Alaska and truly are enjoying this adventure. :)

It's amazing how much greener everything has gotten in just a month since we last hiked the Butte.
